About This Site — And Me

Hi, I’m Tony Young. This website reflects my career and my curiosity.

This is the place where my work and my life intersect — where technical deep dives live alongside garden updates, where enterprise-grade macOS security shares space with stories about parenting in the digital age. It’s all part of the same ecosystem: a life shaped by systems thinking, thoughtful automation, and human-centered problem-solving.

What You’ll Find Here

This site is built to serve a few purposes:

  • Mac Administration Guides & Patch Notes: As a Senior IT Operations Engineer and MacAdmin Team Lead, I hope to share everything from Jamf Pro automation to Docker workflows and MDM best practices. Whether you’re building your first Extension Attribute or auditing your fleet against the macOS Security Compliance Project (mSCP), I write with you in mind.
  • Off the Clock: A small corner of the site where I reflect on things outside of IT — like growing produce with my Gardyn towers, teaching my kids about tech, or monitoring indoor air quality with smart sensors. It’s a reminder that life doesn’t pause when an admin console closes.
  • Career Reflections & Industry Trends: I also write about leadership, team development, career growth, and the evolving challenges of managing Apple hardware in enterprise environments. My post on Reflections from the MacAdmin Journey dives into the wins, pivots, and lessons from the past decade of my career.

Who I Am

I didn’t grow up coding or tinkering with Linux distros. My tech journey began on retail floors — helping customers find the right MacBook or troubleshooting their iPhones. That grounding in real-world problems taught me the value of clear communication and the power of well-configured technology.

Today, I manage enterprise Apple environments spanning hundreds of devices, secure them to federal compliance standards, and mentor the next generation of MacAdmins. I’ve worked across education, federal, and private sectors, building zero-touch deployment pipelines, enforcing patch compliance at scale, and architecting solutions that balance automation with audit readiness.

My specialties include:

  • Jamf Pro engineering and API automation
  • macOS security and DISA STIG/mSCP compliance
  • Mentoring junior engineers on real-world fleet management
  • Bridging the gap between technical and operational goals

But at my core, I enjoy building systems that work—whether that’s a script to track software updates or a Sunday schedule to harvest basil with my kids.

Why This Site Exists

Too often in IT, knowledge lives in private messages or buried inside PDF documentation. I created this space to share the lessons I’ve learned — the ones you won’t always find in official guides. When something frustrates me enough to debug it at midnight, or delights me enough to tell my team about it the next morning, you’ll likely find it written up here.

This site is for fellow MacAdmins, IT engineers, team leads, tinkerers, and anyone trying to bring more clarity to the chaos of managing modern technology. And sometimes, it’s just for me — a space to write, reflect, and connect.

Thanks for Stopping By
